Virat Kohli is a legend, I found the criticism against him amusing: Brett Lee | Cricket News

MELBOURNE: Keeping Virat Kohli down for too long is almost impossible, reckoned Brett Lee days before the T20 World Cup while expressing his surprise at the criticism of the maestro’s slim walk.
Speaking to PTI, the former Australian speedster said that a legend like Kohli cannot be contained for too long.

His words were prophetic as Kohli announced his second coming with a magnificent 82 to take India home by four wickets against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday.
“I found it quite amusing when someone of the caliber of Virat Kohli was attacked. Those who attacked Kohli did not look at his records and his performances in the three formats of the game,” Lee organized during an interaction by Legends League Cricket.

“There are times when you don’t get hundreds or you don’t get fifties. It’s all part of professional sports. What I do know is Virat Kohli is a legend of the game and it’s very difficult to keep these guys .long,” he added.
Like many others, he agreed Jasprit Bumrahs absence is a great loss, but felt Mohammed Shami is an ideal substitute.
“Obviously they needed someone like Bumrah, who could finish an innings. If India are to win the tournament, they have to bowl well in the last five overs. The team that kills as a bowling unit will win the T20 World Cup. . ”

On another note, Lee said he would be happy if David Warner was considered for future Australian captaincy, keeping aside the ball-tampering episode and the ban on his leadership role.
“I have no problem with David Warner getting a chance to lead Australia in the future. He has a great cricketing mind and, in my opinion, deserves every chance to lead Australia.”
