HOOF: Sussex has retained the services of Indian Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara for the 2023 season, the County side announced on Monday.
Pujara, who joined Sussex last year, made a huge impact by scoring over 1,000 County Championship runs, including a record breaking three double centuries and ending the season at an average of 109.4 ended.
The right-handed batsman’s wonderful form continued in the 50-over Royal London Cupwhere he led the side in the absence of injured Tom Haines and led the team to the semi-finals of the competition.

In his nine Royal London Cup appearances, Pujara averaged 89.14 against a right-handed strike rate of 111.62, with a top score of 174 off just 131 balls against Surrey.
“I am delighted to be back at Sussex for the 2023 season. I thoroughly enjoyed my last spell at the club last season, both on and off the pitch and I look forward to contributing to the team’s growth and success in the coming year,” Pujara said in a statement issued by the province’s side.
Sussex Performance Director, Keith Greenfieldadded: “It’s fantastic news that Cheteshwar will return in 2023, we’ve all seen the class he’s shown with the bat and his performances, but he’s also been outstanding in our young dressing room as a world-class role model for them to follow.”
