According to the US State Department website, any Indian B-1 business from New Delhi Visa OR applying for a B-2 tourist visa, he/she will have to wait for an interview appointment after an average of 833 days, i.e. more than two years. His second meaning is that if an Indian applies for a visitor visa today, he will get an appointment in January 2025. Visas of the same category will have to wait 767 days at the consulate in Kolkata, 848 days in Mumbai. This waiting period for an interview appointment has increased further in the last one or two months.
Getting the appointment in just a few days in China
Unlike India, Chinese nationals living in Beijing, Shanghai and Guanzhou will only have to wait a few hours for a visa interview appointment compared to Indian cities. The US Embassy in Beijing, the capital of China, gives Chinese citizens time for visa interviews in just two days. For other categories of visas, including student visas, Chinese citizens only have to wait a few hours compared to Indians. On social networks, there has been an uproar about this discrimination of America. Some people are presenting this directly by linking it to the Modi government’s failed diplomacy. Netizens say that America is using India for its strategic interests. It is not concerned about bilateral trade with India or the future of Indian students who want to pursue higher education. India’s passport is very weak in the eyes of America.

However, the US embassy in India on Tuesday announced that it is opening all categories of visa slots. In addition, he has said that due to the huge demand for visas from India and the relative lack of staff due to the ongoing Corona epidemic since 2020, the waiting period has increased tremendously. It is worth noting that during his visit to the US this week, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said that he had raised the issue of problems faced by Indians in obtaining US visas during his meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. He said that the US Secretary of State has assured that the US is committed to addressing the visa issues of Indians. It is said that the US visa interview period for Indians has increased more than the last few months. In July-August, this waiting period was equal to 500 days, i.e. about a year and a half.
